Option 1

Independent Build

In this approach, you are essentially renting a clean, well-lit, and set up space from us, building your boat independently but getting some coaching from us. We provide for you the complete kit materials and manual to instruct you, but we are here to answer questions and provide guidance (an hour a day is built into the price). If you need us for direct, hands-on instruction we can plan that time with you and charge per hour. The independent build is the best option if you wanted to do your own work and take your time over a longer period of time, going through the boat building process independently but be able to ask questions when you are stuck. Additional costs may include a tool kit, other kits and accessories you wish to purchase and additional labor such as helping up with certain boatbuilding operations.

Independent option is $1,487.50 per week + $100/hour for additional shop help.

Our workshop is bright, clean and well organized. Your space has a 20-foot bench and full access to glue station, supplies, and tools.

Option 2

Collaborative Build

In this individualized workshop you choose a boat of your choice built in multiple week sessions with direct instruction from us. It is essentially a one-on-one, private workshop building the boat you want, so long as the boat is feasible in the time you have. You would have one staff member/instructor working with you for much of each day up to 30 hrs/week and the remaining 10 hours is flex time for you to work alone or take off. If the sessions need to be spread out over time, that is fine, but there would be additional fees for boat storage (we have great space for that) as we would likely need to move the boat out of the shop between sessions.

Collaborative builds are $3,837.50 per week

How do these options differ from the regular classes and workshops at CSC?

The regular workshops and classes are group based offerings that you take with others building your own boat or learning sparmaking, etc. The cost to you per week is less than the collaborative build because we have multiple projects/students contributing. If a group class does not fill and you are the only student remaining, we will give you the choice to move to the collaborative build or independent option towards which you can apply the class deposit. For people who do not finish the group class work or want an extension, they can do so using either of the two options above. Really, we will work with you to figure out a way for you to meet your goals and objectives.

Is there an Option 3, a hybrid of the above two?

Yes, if you don’t need or want the fully collaborative option, choose option 1 and we can discuss a hybrid option that meets your needs!

What is the daily schedule like?

We essentially follow a work day schedule.. Limited hours may be available on weekends.

Where do I stay during the workshop?

We are very close to Old Orchard Beach, Maine. In the off season, there are a zillion places there to stay as long as you don’t expect the Ritz Carlton. We are developing relationships with a few VRBO/Air B&B hosts and will eventually be able to suggest specific, vetted places. We suggest looking at VRBO for cottages that can be quite affordable in the off season. I can even go look at a place if you’d like!
