Boatbuilding 101, a 3-1/2-day primer
May 14-16th in Wiscasset, Maine
In this 3.5-day class, students learn the basics of how to build your own boat starting with a kit. We build a 9-foot canoe and a Frosty. We’ll run through all the skills from reading plans, to mixing epoxy, to hand tool use, and through the steps and skills of building a small boat from our kits and plans. The boats are available for cost of materials at the end of the class.

It’s Santa’s workshop in Saco where we build beautiful scale models of the Echo Bay Dory Skiff - whether for gifts or your own pleasure, this weekend class is a joy. The class fee includes the model kit and the supplies you need to build it in the two days. Take t home for paint and varnish.

Building the Caravelle Rower in the Bronx
April 24-26th at Rocking the Boat in the Bronx
During this three-day session at Rocking the Boat in the South Bronx, noted designer, boatbuilder and kit-boat entrepreneur Clint Chase will lead participants in the assembly of a pair of 14-foot-long Caravelle Skiffs. In addition to gaining experience with contemporary plywood-epoxy building techniques, participants will have the satisfaction of helping to assemble a fleet of versatile lightweight rowing craft for use in free community boating programs in New York City.
