In this newsletter, an update on the shop search/move to Midcoast Maine, recent customer builds and launchings, and a couple new kits that we are excited about!

Our Smallest and Newest Kits

I have always said that the smaller boat the more fun there is to be had!

The Hatch Cove Kayak - a 13’ stitch and glue kayak recently reviewed by WoodenBoat Magazine and received very favorable reviews. For a stable kayak, she is fast and tracks remarkably well. Built from 4mm Okoume, she is very light at 45lbs or under. Designed in collaboration with David Wyman, this is our first kayak. This boat can be done

The Menomonee Canoe - a 9’ Wee-lassie inspired plywood epoxy canoe designed to be not only a great teaching tool in our 3-1/2 day classes but a wonderful boat on the water for kids or smaller adults. Take or 3-day class building this boat and take it home for cost of materials!

Featured Launching

A Calendar Islands 16 built by Mike Stewart. Mike received his kit in early December of last year and launched on April 14th of 2025. That is 4 months! He had built a stitch and glue boat prior but clearly worked hard and loves the boat.

“ The boat absolutely rips upwind compared to my other lug rigged boats. The [CNC shaped] foils have a lot to do with it I’m sure, as well as having tons of purchase on the luff I think. Boat is very fun to sail  and I did get her on plane!  She lifts up with about 15 knots on her quarter.”

A new home has been found!

After being priced out of new construction options, Clint has finally found a place for Chase Small Craft in Midcoast, Maine. He recently signed a lease on a barn in Wiscasset, Maine. This will hopefully be a long term home for CSC and one with a lot of potential for not just the manufacturing but expanded education and workshops. The barn was built in 1890 and has had a lot of loves over the decades. Previously, it was home for 50 years to Jim’s Auto Trim, an antique auto and upholstry business. The place is in the process of being redone and we hope to start moving later this summer. Look for the barn on Rt 1 in Wiscasset and imagine some cute skiffs outside on display.
